Welcome to my page!

When you take the time to actually listen, with humility, to what people have to say, it is amazing what you can learn. Especially if the people who are doing the talking also happen to be children.” – Greg Mortenson

I come from a small town in Transylvania, Romania and I consider myself multilingual and multicultural  having grown up as a Hungarian/Romanian citizen who then immigrated to the United States.

My upbringing is marked by the difficult and complex realities of a country transitioning from communism to democracy.  As I came to the United States and the world opened up to me, I have taken all opportunities to do well academically, study abroad, and travel as much as I could. Building on my interest in linguistics, I made a career training foreign language interpreters within a non-profit agency which resettles refugees. Working with diverse populations made me realize how little we know about people of diverse cultures. Lack of knowledge results in fear and leads to poor choices. My quest to become an educator stems from the belief that the more we learn about the world around us, the more we realize that our different histories underline a common human experience marked by both difficult and inspiring events.  I believe I have a lot of meaningful experiences and expertise when it comes to cross curricular disciplines which I would like to share with my future students. I feel strongly about guiding a community of learners to welcome cultural differences, to share ideas and to apply what they learn in their social studies classes to better understand the world around them.
